Vedanta faces ₹71 crore fine over fly ash disposal; company to challenge order – CNBC TV18
Vedanta Limited has received a notice from the Odisha State Pollution Control Board demanding ₹71.16 crore in environmental compensation for alleged violations related to the unauthorised disposal of fly ash.
The notice, dated 10 April 2025, was served under the Fly Ash Notification issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
In a regulatory filing with the BSE and NSE, Vedanta said it strongly disputes the allegations and intends to pursue appropriate legal remedies. The company claims the decision was made without proper consideration of its compliance records and prior submissions.
“Vedanta believes it has a strong case on merits and is hopeful of a favourable outcome,” the company said, adding that it does not expect the order to have any material financial impact. The delay in disclosure, it said, was due to internal assessment and verification of facts.
