Top gainers and losers: ICICI Bank leads while HCL Technologies tumble
Share prices of ICICI Bank Ltd., Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), State Bank of India (SBI), and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. emerged as the top gainers on Monday.
Among the laggards were shares of HCL Technologies Ltd., Tech Mahindra Ltd., Zomato Ltd., PowerGrid Corporation of India Ltd., and Infosys Ltd.
The Sensex and Nifty witnessed sharp declines as negative sentiment prevailed in the markets. The BSE Sensex plunged 1.08 per cent or 824.29 points, to 75,366.17, while the NSE Nifty fell 1.14 per cent or 263.05 points, to close at 22,829.15.
Top Gainers
ICICI Bank led the gains, rising 1.53 per cent to ₹1,228.00, supported by strong buying interest in the banking sector. HUL shares advanced 0.99 per cent to ₹2,392.40.
M&M gained 0.98 per cent to close at ₹2,828.50, while SBI added 0.65 per cent to finish at ₹749.20. Maruti Suzuki rounded out the top five with a 0.15 per cent gain, ending at ₹11,990.45.
Top Losers
HCL Technologies was the biggest loser, falling 4.60 per cent to ₹1,711.10 as technology stocks faced selling pressure. Zomato plunged 4.47 per cent to ₹206.15.
Tech Mahindra shed 4.08 per cent to ₹1,651.95, while PowerGrid declined 2.94 per cent to ₹287.05. Infosys closed 2.83 per cent lower at ₹1,822.10.
The day’s losses were led by a broad-based selloff in technology stocks, while select banking and consumer goods stocks showed resilience. The market opened lower at 75,700.43 for Sensex and 22,940.15 for Nifty, continuing their downward trajectory throughout the session.
