Share Market Highlights 12 February 2025: Indian markets extend losing streak amid trade war fears
Sensex, Nifty updates: India’s benchmark indexes, Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex, fell for the sixth consecutive session, driven by trade war fears and disappointing earnings, with small-cap stocks approaching bear market territory. The Nifty 50 closed down 0.12% at 23,045.25, while the Sensex declined 0.16% to 76,171.08, marking a 3% loss over six sessions. Small-cap stocks hit a session low, sitting 21.4% below record highs, and the mid-cap index is about 17% off its peak. Significant selling by foreign investors and concerns over U.S. tariffs on India contributed to this downturn. However, the financial sector rose by 0.45%, breaking a five-day losing streak. After market hours, data revealed a drop in India’s retail inflation to 4.31%, providing some relief amidst ongoing economic uncertainties.
