Sensex gains 200 pts, Top gainers & losers today – Tata Consumer, SBI lead gains, Kotak, HDFC Bank, IndusInd, Waaree Energies in action


Shares of Tata Consumer Products, SBI, Kotak Mahindra, Hindustan Unilever and Eternal (Zomato) traded as top gainers on the Nifty 50, while IndusInd, Hero Motocorp, Power Grid, Infosys and Bajaj Auto depreciated the most.

Equity benchmark indices showed resilience with marginal gains on Tuesday. Sensex rose 205.28 points or 0.26 per cent to 79,613.78 as at 12.35 pm, after hitting a low of 79,253.44. Nifty 50 inched up 54.90 pts or 0.23% to 24,180.45.

President Donald Trump on Monday ramped up pressure on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to reduce interest rates. On the domestic front, India imposed a 12 per cent provisional safeguard duty for 200 days on five steel product categories.

Nifty midcap 100 inched up 0.96 per cent to 54,494.70 and Nifty smallcap 100 was up 0.88 per cent to 16,921.45. Volatility index declined 1.72 per cent to 15.25 at the time of writing.

Top gainers & losers today

Sectoral indices except IT traded in positive territory. Banking and finance stocks gained momentum on liquidity boost. Metal stocks also gained traction on 12 per cent provisional safeguard duty.

Shares of Tata Steel, JSL, JSW Steel and Jindal Steel gained in early trade before trading flat intraday.

A total of 2,789 stocks were traded on the National Stock Exchange as at 12.40 pm of which 1,895 advanced and 812 declined.

Shares of Tata Consumer Products led the gainers with 1.94 per cent increase to ₹1,142.80 as at 12.49 pm.

Banking majors SBI and Kotak Mahindra followed with over 1 per cent. The latter also hit 52-week high at ₹2,301.90.

Eternal shares were up 1.34 per cent to ₹237.37.

On the losing side, IndusInd fell 4.53 per cent to ₹790.70, after hitting day’s low of ₹775.40. Reports emerged that Ernst & Young (EY) has been engaged to conduct a second forensic audit into a ₹600-crore discrepancy in the bank’s microfinance portfolio.

Hero Motocorp shares depreciated 2.31 per cent to ₹3,826.60 and Bajaj Auto fell 1.72 per cent to ₹8,106. Power Grid declined 1.88 per cent to ₹314.

IT major Infosys dipped 1.85 per cent to ₹1,424.20.

On the BSE, Alok Industries rallied over 17 per cent post Q4 results. Tilaknagar Industries and Electronics Mart jumped over 12 per cent. IndusInd, Cholamandalam Investment and Fusion Finance tumbled 4-5 per cent.

Shares in action

HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra, IndiGo and NACL were among the 69 stocks that hit 52-week highs on the NSE. Transformers and Rectifiers, ITI and Indo Tech were among 125 stocks that hit upper circuit.

Waaree Energies, Dixon, Colgate, Muthoot Finance and SJVN soared over 4 per cent among midcap, while Trident, ITI, IIFL, Aarti Industries and KFin Tech rallied 4-7 per cent among smallcap stocks.

In addition, shares of Mahindra Logistics, Anant Raj, Himadri Speciality, Tata Investment also showed significant movements due to Q4 results. HCL Tech, Waaree Energies, Havells, Tata Communications and AU Small Finance Bank are set to announce Q4 results today. Track live updates
