Markets end higher led by IT stocks; Infosys, TCS surge while Tata Motors, Powergrid drop
Share prices of Infosys Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tech Mahindra Ltd., and Sun Pharma were among the top gainers on the BSE Sensex.
Among the losers were shares of Tata Motors Ltd., Power Grid Corporation, Axis Bank Ltd., and State Bank of India.
The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended positive after opening higher on Wednesday. The Sensex closed 0.75 per cent or 566.63 points up at 76,404.99, while the Nifty ended 0.57 per cent or 130.70 points higher at 23,155.35.
Top Gainers
Infosys emerged as the top Sensex gainer with a rise of 3.16 per cent, closing at ₹1,856.60. This was followed by TCS, which gained 2.97 per cent to close at ₹4,154.00. Tech Mahindra saw an increase of 2.28 per cent, ending at ₹1,677.65.
Sun Pharma and Bajaj Finserv also performed well, with gains of 1.78 per cent and 1.63 per cent respectively. Sun Pharma closed at ₹1,793.15, while Bajaj Finserv ended at ₹1,743.45.
Top Losers
Among the top losers, Tata Motors declined 2.24 per cent to close at ₹742.95. Power Grid fell by 1.24 per cent to ₹298.55, while Axis Bank dropped 1.02 per cent to end at ₹959.85.
State Bank of India shares also declined, falling 0.76 per cent to close at ₹753.25. NTPC saw a modest decline of 0.56 per cent, ending at ₹322.45.
