Ashok Leyland shares crash on ex-bonus date

Shares of Ashok Leyland halved following the adjustment of bonus issue on Wednesday. The record date for the bonus issue in the ratio of 1:1, was today, July 16, 2025.

Shareholders who held stocks ahead of the record date were eligible for the bonus.

According to data from the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the company had previously issued a bonus back in 2011. Bonus shares are typically issued from the company’s reserves as a means to reward existing shareholders and enhance liquidity in the market by reducing the share price, thereby making it more affordable to new investors.

As on March 2025, the promoter group held 51.52 per cent shares and the public held 48.48 per cent, NSE data show. The auto major reported 3 per cent y-o-y rise in total vehicle sales (including exports) during the month of June 2025. 

The stock traded at ₹124.30 on the NSE as at 11.39 am after opening at an adjusted price of ₹125.40 against the previous close of ₹250.90.
