NSE, BSE Top gainers & losers today May 27: D-Street bleeds as Sensex, Nifty 50 extend losses, IndusInd & Trent lead gainers, BDL, Bayer CropScience, Zen Tech, GRSE, ITI, Protean eGov shares in action


Equity benchmark indices staged volatility on Tuesday’s trade as the mood of investors was mixed amid global cues and many believed to have engaged in profit booking.

After reclaiming 82,000 level intraday, Sensex ended losses and slumped 705.31 pts or 0.86 per cent to 81,471.14 as at 1.03 pm (hitting an intraday low of 81,261.96), and Nifty 50 tanked 185.25 pts or 0.74 per cent to 24,815.90. Volatility index was up nearly 5 per cent to 18.90.

Midcap and smallcap stocks inched up to trade in positive territory.

Top gainers and losers intraday

Shares of IndusInd Bank, Trent, Asian Paints, SBI and Adani Enterprises led the gainers of Nifty 50 in the mid-trading session, while UltraTech Cement, Grasim, NTPC, JSW Steel and Tata Consumers traded as major laggards.

On sectoral front, majority of indexes including IT, auto, FMCG slipped to trade in negative territory. Media, realty, pharma, metal and PSU bank stocks traded with marginal gains. However, defence index continued upward momentum, trading 1 per cent positive at the time of writing. Shares of Midhani, GRSE, BDL and Zen Tech led the surge.

Nearly 1,455 stocks advanced and 1,289 declined of all the 2,838 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange. About 87 stocks including ITI, Zen Technologies, Nibe and Aditya Birla Money, hit the upper circuit, while 39 hit the lower circuit (such as Sagility, Orchid Pharma and DCM Financial).

BDL and Quality Power (set to announce Q4 results today) were among the 33 stocks that hit 52-week high and 12 stocks including Protean eGov Technologies hit 52-week low.

IndusInd Bank soared 2.74 per cent to ₹822.05, leading the pack of Nifty 50 gainers. Trent followed with 1.38 per cent gain to ₹5,602.50. Other stocks such as Asian Paints, State Bank of India, Adani Enterprises, Bharat Electronics and Dr Reddy’s Lab traded flat.

On the flip side, UltraTech depreciated 2.28 per cent to ₹11,423. Grasim and NTPC dropped close to 2 per cent. Tata Consumer Products and Tata Motors declined 1 per cent.

Among midcap, BDL, Bharti Hexacom, Bandhan Bank, Supreme Industries soared nearly 3 per cent. ITI jumped 10 per cent, and CreditAccess, GRSE, IFCI soared 2-5 per cent among smallcap.

On the BSE, shares of Bayer CropScience and Avantel rallied 10-11 per cent. Rategain, Olectra, Orchid Pharma and Blue Dart sank 5-9 per cent.

Bayer CropScience and Schneider Electric zoomed post Q4 results. Sundaram Finance, General Insurance, KEC International and more reacted to Q4 results announced yesterday. Going forward, investors will watch out for industrial production data for April due on May 28, Q4 GDP data due on May 30, 2025, and the RBI’s policy decision on June 6, 2025.
