Top gainers & losers intraday 18th March: Asian Paints, Tata Motors led gains, Ola Electric jumps 13%, Bajaj Finserv falls 2%


Shares of Asian Paints, Tata Motors, Hindalco, Shriram Finance and ICICI Bank lead the gainers of Nifty 50 constituents. Among the laggards were Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra, IndusInd and Reliance Industries.

Media, consumer durables, banking, metal and auto sectors drove the market.

The broader market soared due to positive global cues. Sensex traded at 75,002.58, higher by 832.63 pts or 1.12 per cent as at 12.25 pm, and Nifty 50 gained 248.20 pts or 1.1 per cent to 22,756.95.

Shares of Asian Paints led the gainers by 2.69 per cent trading at ₹2,279.3.

Tata Motors stock followed with 2.56 per cent increase to ₹678, following incorporation of a wholly-owned subsidiary and announcement of price hike for a range of commercial vehicles up to 2 per cent from April 2025.

Hindalco shares rose 2.50 per cent to ₹697.8. Shriram Finance stock was up 2.36 per cent to ₹637.95 and ICICI Bank gained 2.31 per cent to ₹1,298.35.

On the losing side, Bajaj Finserv shares traded as the major laggard, with a 1.69 per cent decline to ₹1,839.9. The stock remained in focus as it announced the acquisition of Allianz SE’s 26 per cent stake in their two joint ventures — Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company (BAGIC) and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company (BALIC) — for a total consideration of ₹24,180 crore.

Telecom major Bharti Airtel followed with a slip of 0.41 per cent to ₹1,632.5.

IT stock Tech Mahindra dipped 0.10 per cent to ₹1,438.7.

IndusInd Bank shares and Reliance Industries slipped 0.06 per cent and 0.02 per cent, respectively.

Of all the 2,879 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange, 2,245 advanced and 573 declined. In addition, Gensol Engineering (lower circuit), Hyundai, AU Small Finance Bank and Ola Electric were among the 176 stocks that hit 52-week low in early trade today. However, Ola has rallied 13.32 per cent to ₹53.18 amid insolvency concerns.

International Gemmological also hit the lower circuit today.

Among the Sensex pack, shares of Jyoti Structures, Mastek and Morepen Laboratories zoomed over 13 per cent. On the flip side, Gensol and Hitachi Energy dropped over 4 per cent.
