JSW Energy expands green portfolio with 159 MW wind power addition 


JSW Energy Limited has added 159 MW of greenfield wind power capacity in the current quarter, bringing its total operational capacity to 8,400 MW, the company announced today.

The shares of JSW Energy Limited were trading at ₹475.80 up by ₹1.95 or 0.41 per cent on the NSE today at 11.30 am.

The newly added capacity is operational ahead of the wind season and is expected to help meet increased energy demand during the upcoming peak demand period, contributing to sustainable power supply, according to the company statement.

With this addition, JSW Energy’s total operational wind capacity now stands at 2,826 MW. The company’s current power generation portfolio consists of 3,508 MW thermal, 2,826 MW wind, 1,391 MW hydel, and 675 MW solar capacity, diversified across geographic locations, fuel sources, and power off-take arrangements.

The Mumbai-based power producer, part of the $24 billion JSW Group, is currently constructing various power projects totaling approximately 2.1 GW. The company has approximately 8.0 GW of capacity under construction overall, as it works toward its target of achieving 20 GW of total installed generation capacity “significantly before FY2030.”

JSW Energy began commercial operations in 2000 with the commissioning of its first 2×130 MW thermal power plants at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, and has since expanded its capacity from 260 MW to the current 8,400 MW.

The company, which has established its presence across the power sector value chain with diversified assets in power generation and transmission, continues to focus on sustainable growth through “strong operations, robust corporate governance and prudent capital allocation strategies,” the statement noted.
